Régulo D. Aleixo

OBV: Portuguese Timor 20 Escudos 1967

     Régulo D. Aleixo was a Portuguese Timorese hero. He fought alongside with the Portuguese in the revolt of Dom Boaventura. Posthumously, he was awarded with Portuguese state honours. During World War II, Dom Aleixo led a a heroic but doomed stand against the Japanese-led forces when they invaded the island of Timor. He was finally captured at the mountains of Timor in May 1943. Dom Aleixo and his family was executed for remaining loyal to Portugal by refusing to surrender the Portuguese flag which was kept hidden from the Japanese-led forces.
